These are planning estimates, not guarantees. ROAS uses sales and ad cost only, so it does not include returns, staff, tools or other costs unless they are in your margin. Ask your accountant about GST.
How this ROAS calculator works
ROAS tells you how many rupees of sales you earn for every rupee of ad spend. The calculator also checks the number against your profit margin, because a ROAS that looks high can still lose money.
| What it tells you | Formula | Example (illustration only) |
|---|---|---|
| ROAS | Sales from ads ÷ ad spend | ₹2,00,000 ÷ ₹50,000 = 4.00x |
| Break-even ROAS | 100 ÷ profit margin % | 100 ÷ 40 = 2.5x |
| Profit after ad cost | Sales × margin % − ad cost | ₹2,00,000 × 40% − ₹50,000 = ₹30,000 |
| ROAS on total cost | Sales ÷ (ad spend + GST + fee) | ₹2,00,000 ÷ ₹59,000 ≈ 3.39x (with 18% GST on ad spend) |
| Expected sales (budget plan) | Ad budget × expected ROAS | ₹50,000 × 3 = ₹1,50,000 |
| Sales needed for a target | Ad spend × target ROAS | ₹50,000 × 5 = ₹2,50,000 |
The examples only show the maths. They are not benchmarks for your business.
What is a good ROAS?
There is no single good ROAS. It depends on your profit margin. Divide 100 by your margin percentage to find the ROAS at which you break even before other costs. The ROAS calculator above does this for you when you enter your margin.
| Profit margin | Break-even ROAS |
|---|---|
| 20% | 5.0x |
| 25% | 4.0x |
| 40% | 2.5x |
| 50% | 2.0x |
